Green Visionary Artistry – Second Stop: Kaunas, Lithuania

Second Event – “Sculpting Sustainability and Community Creations”

From June 10 to 13, 2025, Vytautas Magnus University organised in Kaunas, Lithuania, the second international mobility of the European project Green Visionary Artistry – A Tapestry of Environmental Expression, bringing together representatives from all the partner entities.

Under the theme “Sculpting Sustainability and Community Creations,” we continued the work started in Portugal with a program that combined art, sustainability, and civic participation. Over four days, young people, professionals, artists, and institutional representatives engaged in artistic creation, environmental reflection, and intercultural exchange.

The mobility was organized by Vytautas Magnus University (VMU), the host institution that welcomed us with great openness and outstanding organization, creating an environment of dialogue and creative inspiration.

Program of Activities

The program began at VMU with an official welcome and a creative workshop using recycled materials, where we worked with magazines and other reused graphic media to shape visual messages about sustainability and conscious consumption.

In the afternoon, we visited the VMU Botanical Garden, where we participated in a land art session led by Regina Ribokienė. This activity involved creating ephemeral installations using natural elements, reinforcing our connection to the landscape and the surrounding ecosystem.

On the second day, we explored the city of Kaunas through a guided tour led by the Ekskursas team, who took us through iconic places and urban stories shaped by processes of regeneration and community expression.

This was followed by an afternoon of dialogue at the floating cultural space Nemuno7, where we had the opportunity to reflect on local sustainability practices and cultural policies. The conversation included the participation of Lukas Alsys, Vice President of the Kaunas District Municipality, and Emilė Kaminskaitė-Sutkuvienė from the Kaunas District Tourism and Business Information Center.

We concluded the mobility with a visit to Parko 7 in Batniava, where we were welcomed by sculptor Tadas Vosylius. There, we explored the potential of sculpture as a form of community activation and expression of environmental commitment.

This second mobility once again confirmed the importance of art as a vehicle for active, participatory, and locally aware environmental citizenship. We left Kaunas with new learnings, renewed ideas, and strengthened partnerships.
